Job Overview & Description

The York County School of Technology is seeking an experienced administrative assistant for a full-time, year-round position in our high school office. Anticipated hourly rate is $16.00--$20.00 based on prior experience and qualifications. 


The individual in this position is responsible for coordinating substitute coverage.  In order to accommodate this responsibility, the daily schedule is 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., which includes a lunch break.  An additional 1.5 hours will be completed remotely in the evening or before school for securing and coordinating substitutes.  During the summer break or during holidays when school is not in session, on-site hours will be adjusted for full days.


While specific duties vary by office, Administrative Assistants provide support in the following areas: 

  • Handling requests for information from administrators, faculty, students, and parents.

  • Ensuring accuracy in data entry.

  • Maintaining accurate paper and electronic files.

  • Preparing correspondence.

  • Receiving visitors.

  • Arranging meetings and events.

  • Reading, interpreting, applying and explaining rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and project information.

  • Participate in meetings, in-service activities, and training opportunities as required.

  • Preparing reports or data.


Qualified candidates will meet the following:

  • Prior experience in an administrative support role, with experience in an educational environment desired.

  • Associate’s degree or higher is preferred.  A high school diploma/GED is required.  Candidates must be at least four years beyond high school.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with applicable software packages, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Must demonstrate an ability to read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, procedures and projects.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation & vocabulary.

  • Must communicate effectively both orally & in writing.

  • Must meet all legal requirements, submit all criminal background checks, clearance statements, and the like, established by law.
