Overview

We are excited to announce our summer 2024 Career Camp dates! During the two-day camp, current sixth- and seventh-grade students from our 14 sending school districts will have an opportunity to experience hands-on activities in a number of technical programs. Applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Jan. 2, 2024.

Cost & Meals

There is no cost for the program; all supplies and materials are provided. Breakfast and lunch are included at no cost to the participants.

Eligible Participants

All current sixth- and seventh-grade students living in the following school districts are eligible to register.

• Central York School District

Transportation

Free transportation will be provided from each school district’s middle school. A bus schedule will be mailed to participants’ caregivers with the confirmation of registration.

How to Apply

Applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The application can be completed starting Jan. 2, 2024, at https://ycst.info/cc24. Registration will remain open until all available spots are filled. Once all spots have been filled, subsequent applications will be added to the waiting list.

Technical Program Workshops

The following list provides a brief description of each career area available at Career Camp. Participants will experience four of these areas over the two-day camp. During the registration process, you will be asked to select the student’s four most preferred areas and two alternate choices. Please note that for scheduling purposes, we cannot honor requests for students to be together in the same workshops.

• Automotive Technology — Students will learn basic auto maintenance, such as changing oil, rotating tires, replacing batteries, and replacing spark plugs.

• Commercial Arts — Students will learn how to take their passion for art and design and turn it into a rewarding career!

• Communications Technology — Students will explore television production, photography, graphic design, and web design in an introduction to Communications Technology.

• Construction Trades — Students will sample the skills needed to take a construction project from planning to building!

• Cosmetology — Students will be introduced to personal grooming, making their own shampoo and conditioner, clipper cutting, braiding, nail art, and eye makeup.

• Criminal Justice (Crime Scene) — Do you have what it takes to crack the case and solve the crime? Evidence suggests that you should explore the crime scene with us!

• Culinary — Students will receive a "taste" of the skill set required to become the next top chef. Bon appétit!

• Dental Assisting — Do you enjoy going to the dentist? Learn about the mouth, your teeth, and the exciting field of Dental Assisting.

• Early Childhood Education — Students will examine and participate in literacy activities aligned to the developmental areas of children (physical, emotional, social and intellectual).

• Engineering/Advanced Manufacturing & Mechatronics — Plan, design, build and test! Students will explore the exciting world of Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing/Mechatronics.

• Future Teachers — Consider how our senses help us learn through fun and engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) challenges and activities.

• Information Technology (Networking) — Students will learn the basics on how systems communicate with each other. They will also make their own network cable, which can be used to connect game systems or computers to a home network for a faster, more secure connection.

• Information Technology (Using Computers) — What if we could diagnose computer problems, maintain our own machines, and perform computer upgrades? We can! Explore how in IT - Using Computers.

• Medical Professions (Pharmacology) — Medicine and the body. How do they work together? Learn the skills you need to help you understand why taking medication is so important when you are sick or have a disease. Students will leave with learning how to make a homeopathic medication.

• Medical Professions (Emergency Preparedness) — Hope for the best, and plan for the worst! Students will learn the skills they need to step up when accidents happen. Students will also leave with an emergency supply/first aid kit.

• Medical Professions (General) — Injuries, illness, disease. What can you do? Students will learn healthcare skills to help themselves and others. Topics include germs, pulse, choking, heart anatomy, and CPR.

• Powersports — Students will learn how to repair motorcycles and ATVs by diagnosing engine running problems, repairing tires and tubes, performing maintenance, and learning how to wire up and test a circuit.

• Precision Machining — Use heavy duty tools to create precision parts and shapes. Explore a career in metal machining!

• Welding — Get ready to design, layout, cut, bend, form, and weld metal from flat raw material to a usable object.

Los estudiantes saldrán aprendiendo cómo preparar un medicamento homeopático.

• Profesiones médicas (preparación para emergencias) — ¡Espera lo mejor y planifica para lo peor! Los estudiantes aprenderán las habilidades que necesitan para mejorar cuando ocurren accidentes. Los estudiantes también saldrán con un botiquín de primeros auxilios y suministros de emergencia.

• Profesiones médicas (general) — Lesiones, enfermedades, dolencias. ¿Qué puedes hacer? Los estudiantes aprenderán habilidades de atención médica para ayudarse a sí mismos y a los demás. Los temas incluyen gérmenes, pulso, asfixia, anatomía del corazón y RCP.

• Deportes motorizados — Los estudiantes aprenderán a reparar motocicletas y vehículos todo terreno diagnosticando problemas de funcionamiento del motor, reparando neumáticos y cámaras, realizando mantenimiento y aprendiendo a conectar y probar un circuito.

• Mecanizado de precisión — Utilice herramientas resistentes para crear piezas y formas de precisión. ¡Explore una carrera en el mecanizado de metales!

• Soldadura — Prepárese para diseñar, diseñar, cortar, doblar, formar y soldar metal desde materia prima plana hasta un objeto utilizable.
